NM legislator introduces bill to define armed school security officer training and roles privateofficer.org

SANTA FE, N.M. January 3 2019
Schools across the country have begun arming their security officers and as that happens in New Mexico, one legislator wants a law that would spell out who could be hired, what training they would need and what their duties would be.
Representative Linda Trujillo filed House Bill 129 which would allow retired police officers and contract security employees to carry guns on public school campuses but only if they earn a level three security guard license.
The bill says they must not have another job title or accompanying job duties.
Their job should only be to protect the children and staff of the school.
Trujillo tells the Santa Fe New Mexican she wants it to be clear that the person hired is not a teacher or school employee.

There’s no word yet how many other legislators might be on board with this bill.
