Pahiyas Festival 2017

The picture above was Sir Dats' obra last May 15, 2017, an entry for the annual Pahiyas Festival. It was made mostly with palay stalks, colored native abaniko (native hand-held fan) and the product which the festival is known for, kiping (rice wafers).

The Pahiyas Festival, originally known as the Feast of San Isidro, showcases houses decorated with colorful "kiping" accented with farm produce such as rice, fruits, plants and vegetables as a way of thanksgiving for the bountiful harvests. Officially, it is known as the Lucban San Isidro Pahiyas Festival and celebrated only for a day, every May 15 of each year.

This was designed and created by Resty "Sir Dats" Datu. His creations were usually featured in newspapers and magazines. This particular masterpiece of Sir Dats were posted in Inquirer.net (http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/897188/pahiyas-color-risks-fading-as-lucban-youths-interest-in-local-culture-wanes).
